Discrete Stiffness Tailoring: Optimised design and testing of minimum mass stiffened panels

چکیده
Discrete Stiffness Tailoring (DST) is a novel manufacturing concept where stiffness tailoring achieved using discrete changes in ply angle to favourably redistribute stresses. Resulting performance increases can be exploited potentially achieve lightweight rapidly manufacturable structures, uninhibited by the minimum tow-turning radii which limit continuous fibre steering approaches. An efficient two-stage optimisation routine implemented design DST minimum-mass stiffened aircraft wing panel subject buckling and feasibility constraints. The manufactured compression tested failure, extending component level for first time. A weight reduction of 14.4% compared constant optimum, through redistribution load stiffener region. optimum removes material from skin, between stiffeners. Experimentally, optimised tailored load, without within 5% that predicted, validating both methodology modelling.

A Strategy for a Robust Design of Cracked Stiffened Panels
This work is focused on the numerical prediction of the fracture resistance of a flat stiffened panel made of the aluminium alloy 2024 T3 under a monotonic traction condition. The performed numerical simulations have been based on the micromechanical Gurson-Tvergaard (GT) model for ductile damage. The applicability of the GT model to this kind of structural problems has been studied and assesse...
متن کاملEffect of Bow-Type Initial Imperfection On Reliability of Minimum- Weight Stiffened Structural Panels
iii Summary Computations were performed to determine the eect of an overall bow-type initial imperfection on the reliability of structural panels under combined compression and shear loadings. A panel's reliability is the probability that it will perform its intended function|in this case, carry a given load without buckling or exceeding in-plane strain allowables. For a panel loaded in compres...
متن کاملDesign optimization of stiffened composite panels with buckling and damage tolerance constraints
The design of stiffened, composite wing panels must satisfy a range of requirements related to performance, economy and safety. In particular, the design must be damage tolerant to satisfy a number of different performance requirements for various states of damage. To obtain an optimum configuration that satisfies these requirements simultaneously, optimization code PANOPT was extended with a m...
متن کاملFracture Analysis of the Faa/nasa Wide Stiffened Panels
This paper presents the fracture analyses conducted on the FAA/NASA stiffened and unstiffened panels using the STAGS (STructural Analysis of General Shells) code with the critical crack-tip-opening angle (CTOA) fracture criterion. The STAGS code with the “plane-strain” core option was used in all analyses. Previous analyses of wide, flat panels have shown that the high-constraint conditions aro...
متن کاملMinimum-mass panels under probabilistic aeroelastic flutter constraints
Aeroelastic flutter is a dangerous failure mode, and aircraft structural components are designed under a deterministic flutter margin. Meeting this safety factor may result in overly-conservative structures, however, an alternative approach incorporates uncertainties into the computational models, and imposes a maximum allowable flutter probability during the optimization process. This techniqu...
